The Westchester County, New York, community is mourning the tragic passing of Joan A. Mosca, a 92-year-old resident of New Rochelle, whose life came to a heartbreaking end following a fatal single-vehicle crash along Interstate 684. According to the New York State Police, the investigation began on the evening of June 30 at approximately 7:30 p.m. after Joan Mosca was reported missing by concerned family members. She was last seen around 4:00 p.m. departing a park-and-ride lot near Exit 4 of Interstate 684 in Mount Kisco. Authorities said she was observed driving her gray Toyota Camry southbound before contact with her was lost.
As concern for her safety grew, state troopers and emergency responders launched a coordinated search throughout the Interstate 684 corridor. Officers searched nearby roadways, exits, and wooded areas where a vehicle might have left the roadway, hoping to locate her safely.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., authorities located Joan’s vehicle about 30 feet off the shoulder of southbound Interstate 684 near mile marker 0.9. The Toyota Camry had overturned, prompting an immediate emergency response. First responders discovered Joan still inside the vehicle and, despite their efforts, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate the incident was a fatal single-vehicle crash. However, the New York State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. Investigators are examining roadway conditions, vehicle movement, possible mechanical issues, and environmental factors, while accident reconstruction specialists analyze evidence from the crash scene to determine exactly what occurred.
The discovery brought a heartbreaking conclusion to the search that family members had hoped would end safely. Loved ones are now mourning the loss of Joan while remembering her long life, enduring presence, and the many memories she created with family and friends throughout the years.
